What about the cake?

WeddingCake

I think I finally found someone to make the cake. I am really excited about it. The name of the place is West End bakery. They have a lot of nice cakes and reasonable prices. The picture above is similar to what I chose.  The only differences is the colors, number of tiers, and the top of the cake. When choosing a cake, you have to figure out what you actually want. I decided to make a list to help me out. Here is what I came up and this might help you:

  • First, you have to decide to what kind of cake you want. You have to decide if you want white, chocolate, or a mix of some type. I do not like chocolate so much and my fiance does not like it at all. I decided to do is have half white and half chocolate. By doing this, I please both sides.

  • Second, you have to decide what to put on the cake. You have to decide whether you want a flower design, plain design, present design, or something else. I decided that I wanted a flower design, but one that is simply. It will also contain the colors for the wedding on it. The cake will be an ivory color, with hunter green and navy blue flowers all around it.
  • Third, you have to decide how much cake you think you will need. For this it is best, I think, to under estimate how many guests you will have. I did it this way and my other friends also did it like that. Prices for cakes go with the number of slices you can get out of it and how many tiers it has. I decided to say that I will probably have 170 people to the reception.
  • Fourth, you have to decide how many tiers you would like to have or if you would rather just have each cake sit on top of one another. I decided that I wanted to have four tiers. I want the cakes to be separate from each other. I want you to be able to look at each cake and see the design on it. Also, ask them for pictures of past wedding cakes they have designed. This will help you with your decision of whether or not to go with the bakery.
  • Fifth, after deciding what you would want you have to decide who you want to make the cake. I looked around for weeks to months to find the right place to make the cake. You also have to know what your budget is going to be so that you do not cover it. Ask for samples because most places will give them out.
  • Last, after the main details are taken care of then you need to finalize with the place of your choice. I would say that you would need to make sure that you get a contract with them. Also, some places make you book almost a year in advance. I called ahead and asked different places when they started to book for the date that I had chosen. Make sure that the chef gets sample colors of the wedding. Also, make sure that you have talked to chef about delivery and setup at the site.

After all of these points, I think that anyone could come up with a cake they like and be able to find a bakery they like. This is the list that I made by myself to help me since I was planning this wedding on my own. You could modify this list to fit your needs, but I think that it is a good starter list.

  1. In Sofia Coppola’s new film, Marie Antoinette (http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/marieantoinette/), the characters eat a lot of wonderous and beautiful looking food, including much cake (http://media.mysan.de/index.php?action=showpic&cat=545&pic=6476). Without a doubt, you want cake that looks like the cake in this film. But, of course, if the cake is too visually stunning will your guests not feel guilty eating it?

The most extravagant celebrations prove food can be art. A wedding is as good a celebration as any. Have fun with your cake.

  2. Of course the cake link didn’t work. Let’s try…
